3D printing is not only useful for printing a prototype overnight. Industries like the film industry are using 3D printing all the time. The film industry is using 3D printing to print affordable props. Props are objects/accessories which are used in films. A few examples of props are statues, bones, cars and many other objects.
This whale is a good example of a film prop. This prop has been printed in 2 separate pieces and was printed in 130 hours. The total length of the whale is 1.4 meter and weighs about 4 kg. The whale is printed in PLA and the total material costs for the 3D printed whale are about €145. Producing a prop this size can be very expensive but now with 3D printing you can create affordable big volume 3D prints.
